About Betta Foods Australia

Betta Foods was established in 1954 as a small cone manufacturing plant based in Thomastown.  In 1995, Betta embarked on a major expansion program relocating operations to a new 10 acre site in Broadmeadows situated only 15 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD and close to domestic highways.

Today, Betta Foods is the leading manufacturer and supplier of ice cream cones in Australia as well exporting to New Zealand.  Since inception, Betta Foods has substantially diversified its product range by entering into the confectionery market.

Our core confectionery and biscuit market segments include:

  • marshmallows
  • chocolate panned products
  • liquorice
  • specialty biscuits
  • snowballs

The combination of high quality products together with innovation and sound marketing strategies over recent times have resulted in securing a customer base which includes all major food retailers, well known fast food chains, large industrial accounts and a network of wholesalers across the country.  Our key drivers are to provide service excellence and quality products to all our customers.

More recently with Investec Wentworth Private Equity Pty Ltd as the major stakeholder and with a new senior management team, the business is being revitalised to ensure it can thrive in an increasingly competitive market.

As part of the redevelopment process of the Betta Foods Australia business over the last 18 months the Company was put into voluntary administration (VA) in August 2004.  The Company emerged from the VA in September 2004 subject to Deed of Company Arrangement which is due to expire on or before 30 June 2006.

In early 2005 substantial management changes were effected and the new management team has developed a comprehensive 2 year plan to regenerate the business.  This plan is now well underway, is achieving its initial milestones and has the support of all major stakeholders.
